“Rescue Me”, the popular FX television series, begins its final season on Wednesday after running for seven years. Starring Denis Leary, who’s also the series co-creator, the drama is chronicles the life of firefighter Tommy Gavin and Ladder Company 62.
Exploring the themes of redemption and guilt, family relationships, alcoholism and depression while under the cloud of the events of September 11, 2001, it’s clear that television critics are hopeful the show will end on the strong note it’s played all along. As season seven opens, the Chicago Sun-Times says, “The melding of comedy and drama is as deft as ever.” The Tuscon Citizen called out the show for “its characters’ steadfast refusal to put 9/11 behind them. In a nation that prefers to move on, Rescue Me‘s firefighters are stuck.”
Denis Leary received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2005, 2006 and 2007. He also received an Emmy nomination for writing along with Peter Tolan in 2005. During its run, the show also received nominations for a Television Critics Association Award, Satellite Award, Prism Award, Image Award and Golden Globe Award.
